About Us

About Saunders & Chorley Funeral Directors

At Saunders & Chorley Funeral Directors, we are proud to combine two long-established family legacies, providing compassionate, professional care to families across Cumbria. With over 100 years of combined experience, our families—Lloyd Saunders and Louis Chorley—have built a reputation for trust, care, and community involvement. Liam, now at the helm, continues the family traditions passed down by his grandfather, Lloyd Saunders, and further strengthened by Louis Chorley, a well-respected figure with over 50 years of service in the community.

We are proud to be members of the NAFD National Association of Funeral Directors.

A Legacy of Family Care and Mentorship

For generations, Lloyd Saunders and Louis Chorley have been the cornerstones of our community, nurturing deep connections and providing compassionate care to families in their time of need. Through their mentorship, Liam Appleby has inherited a wealth of knowledge, tradition, and a dedication to service. Their guidance has shaped Liam into the funeral director he is today, and their influence continues to inspire him as he carries forward their legacy. With every family we serve, we honour the values they instilled in us—respect, care, and genuine support for our community. It's because of Lloyd and Louis that Liam continues this important journey, upholding the traditions they set in place while building on the lessons they've taught him.

Our Legacy of Care

For five generations, we have supported families in times of loss, with each generation striving to maintain the same core values of respect, dignity, and personal care. As a family-run business, we understand the importance of delivering service that is not only professional but truly heartfelt. Our deep connections to the community ensure that we provide genuine, personal service for every family, always treating each individual with the utmost care and attention.

Our Chapel

We are honoured to offer a peaceful and private chapel in Barrow-in-Furness, where families can come to reflect, say goodbye, and spend time with their loved ones. Our chapel, which can seat up to 80 people, is a serene and comforting environment designed to help you through this difficult time. It provides a space for you to hold private services, and we offer the option to play music or have personal tributes. Our promise is to always keep the light on, ensuring your loved one is cared for at all hours in a space that’s both respectful and inviting.
